At the Clinique Ngaliema the once white, now filthy grey walls of the old hospital, and Belgian architecture speaks volumes into a bygone era of colonization and French influence. Not too much has changed since the 1960’s including the staff, from the gardeners to the doctors. Many of them have been working in the same position for over 30 years. There is no free education or health care in the DRC, and the rate of unemployment is incredibly high. Life there for most is a constant struggle. Yet every person I photographed exudes a sense of pride in both their dress and attitude towards their work.
